A wedding in the forest near Aarwangen, Bern? Yes, that's right, I heard correctly when I received the request. I could hardly believe my luck – since I love being in nature myself, I was incredibly excited to accompany the couple on their special day in the greenery. Also, I really enjoy photographing vintage/boho weddings, as they match my photographic style, which is natural and timeless.
First Look and Couple Photos
The weather could not have been better for this unique wedding in the Bern region. After an emotional first look, we went into the forest for the couple photos. Just before that, I had found a small clearing with just enough sunlight to take romantic backlit photos. As you might know, I always try to shoot into the light whenever possible, as it gives the images a magical look. To make it even more romantic, we used colored smoke flares – the result was breathtaking! But it’s best to see for yourself :-) (At the end of the blog post, I have a few tips for you for great photos with smoke flares.)
The Wedding Ceremony - In the Heart of the Forest
The couple chose a small clearing in the forest for their wedding ceremony. With white chairs for the wedding guests and two large, old armchairs for the couple, along with many vintage Persian rugs. The outdoor ceremony was very emotional, with tears of joy and lots of laughter. Thanks to the beautiful location in the heart of the forest, the ceremony was not only unforgettable for the couple and the guests present, but also for me as the wedding photographer.
Wedding Dinner and Wedding Cake
For the wedding dinner, a frame decorated with candles and garlands was set up, which perfectly matched the boho theme of the wedding. Especially in the dark, the frame stood out beautifully.
I would like to sincerely thank the couple for their trust in me – thanks to you, this day was very special for me as well. The tables were covered with antique candle holders and beautiful cutlery. The Italian food was absolutely incredible and surely one of the best wedding dinners I’ve had the pleasure of tasting this year. A special mention goes to the wedding cake, which was made by the bride's maid of honor herself. Thanks to the old wooden table and the warm candlelight, we were able to wonderfully showcase the cake in true boho style.
I hope you enjoyed the images from this enchanting alternative outdoor wedding. If you're still looking for a wedding photographer in Bern, feel free to contact me.

Tip for Smoke Flare Photos – Wedding Photographer Bern
Smoke flares (also called smoke bombs) are perfect for adding a romantic touch to your wedding photos. It's best to choose a bold color that complements the surroundings. So, if you’re taking photos in a green environment, use an orange or red smoke bomb. This will add more contrast to the photos.
For the photoshoot, choose a location with direct backlighting. You can also take great photos on shady days. Now, place the smoke flare about 1 meter behind you in the ground. And let the photoshoot begin. Since the flares only produce smoke for a short time, you’ll need to move quickly – it’s best if you already know what poses you want for the photos. If it’s too windy, it’s best to skip the smoke bombs, as the wind will blow the smoke away immediately.
